TL; DR: We teamed up with Biqu to put Revo on their flagship Extruder. Read on to find out how it happened!

A collaboration: E3D x Biqu

One recent product release that may have slipped under your radar is the Biqu H2 V2S Revo, a long name for what is such a tiny Extruder! At only 198 grams, the Biqu Revo is one of the lightest All-in-one Direct Drive Extruders on the market right now.

If Biqu doesn’t ring a bell, you’ll probably recognise Bigtreetech their main brand. Thanks to their expertise in 3D printer electronics, Bigtreetech have become an established name within the industry. Biqu have continued that trend but with more of a focus on 3D printers and specifically Extruders.

E3D specialise in Extrusion systems, meaning HotEnd’s, Extruder’s and anything in between. RapidChange Revo is our latest development and is our contribution to this collaboration. If you’ve not come across the Revo system before, it allows you to change Nozzles at room temperature. No tools, no hot-tightening, no fuss! The benefits of the system don’t end there though.

We are also known for Revo’s predecessor, the V6 ecosystem and for our ‘Toolchanger’, a research platform that can combine up to four multi-functional tools in one single print.

Since both E3D and Biqu design and manufacture Extruders, you’d be right to think that we are technically competitors. At E3D though, we love a collaboration and want to ensure that no matter whether you choose one of our Extruders or an alternative, RapidChange Revo is available as an option. By working together, we can combine our expertise to deliver even better products to market.

Biqu first made contact with us just over a year ago, shortly after we introduced RapidChange Revo to the world at TCT 2021 in Birmingham. They had just released a new version of their Biqu H2 line and saw Revo as a great fit. We liked the idea and got straight to work sending over some samples. Fast forward a few months and we had their first prototype in our hands ready to put it through its paces.

First, we got on a call with Biqu to discuss and align on the goals of our collaboration. Once everyone was on the same page, Biqu began the process of redesigning the H2 Heatsink to include the features needed to integrate Revo. This includes the M4 thread for the Nozzles and the spring clip geometry. Yes, integrating Revo is really that straightforward! With samples in our hands, it was onto testing. This one was a team effort! There was some overlap in the middle, but Biqu focussed primarily on Extruder compatibility and at E3D we looked at thermal validation. Once everyone was happy with the design, we progressed to Production and set our sights on a product reveal at Rapid TCT in Detroit!

We spoke to Product Manager Richard Liu, to get Biqu’s thoughts on the collaboration:

In your own words, what is the Biqu H2 V2S Revo?

The H2 V2S Revo is an All-in-one extruder combining the bestselling extruder from Biqu and E3D’s all new RapidChange Revo ecosystem, to bring the user the perfect balance of performance, light weight, useability, and easy maintenance.

Why did you want to partner with E3D?

In the 3D printing world, when you say the word Extruder or HotEnd, E3D is the first company that comes to mind. E3D has been focused in the field of extrusion systems for so long that it’s hard for anyone to not want to partner with E3D.

The all-new RapidChange Revo ecosystem also brings some new light to the HotEnd development game where everyone is basically adding their own small changes onto the old V6 platform, and no real innovation has really happened for years.

What are the benefits of working with E3D?

Working with E3D has been nothing but professional and a pleasure. We at Biqu can focus on what we do best on the Extruder, and E3D brings in all their expert R&D and years of experience with HotEnd’s. We can really combine the best of both worlds with ease. E3D also has a great relationship with community members and can help us spread the word about the wonderful extruder of H2 V2S Revo.

What do you like most about the Revo system?

What attracted us to want to integrate the Revo system on to our extruder is its ease of maintenance, small form factor, light weight, and the huge potential of expandability and upgradeability.

How do you see Biqu collaborating with E3D in the future?

The H2 V2S Revo is the first co-developed product between Biqu and E3D but certainly will not be the last. Biqu is continuing our R&D of new generations and versions of the H2 extruder and other extruder series as well, we should certainly see more and more Revo nozzles going into our new extruders.

📷 Alongside the addition of the Revo system, there’s been a few other upgrades to this version of the Biqu H2 from its predecessor.

What do you believe is the most important feature of an Extruder?

Generally speaking, the most important feature would be the extrusion power and extrusion quality, but on top of that, the most important feature set of the H2 V2S Revo is the ease of maintenance and the light weight of the extruder.

There’s no one extruder that can rule them all. For extruders with different purposes, there definitely will be different features sets. For the H2 V2S Revo, what we are trying to develop is a good all-around extruder that combines ease of use, light weight and higher flow for faster printing, smooth extrusion for high quality prints, and tuneability to accommodate a large variety of filaments. The combination of lightweight of the H2 series and the higher flowrate from the expertly engineered Revo nozzles, makes the extruder performance much better compared to extruders with old V6 blocks and nozzles.

📷 Revo provides a leakproof filament path below the Extruder gears.

Can you tell us what the next generation of Biqu's Extruders might look like?

The direction that Biqu is going with our extruder is smaller, lighter, and faster. So, when the high flow Revo solution releases, users will definitely see an even smaller and lighter extruder from Biqu with the high flow Revo nozzle to be able to print even faster.

If you want to learn more about the H2 Revo, Teaching Tech made a great video documenting his experience with the Extruder. It also shows off our recently released ObXidian Nozzles so it’s well worth a watch!

The Biqu H2 V2S Revo is available to buy right now, check out Biqu’s webshop! You can also find it at 3DJake. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration with Biqu and look forward to the next one.

If you’re looking to integrate E3D products into your system, or are perhaps looking for something custom, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always looking for opportunities to collaborate!
